Prowl for Chrome: Privacy

Prowl for Chrome is a free browser extension from Owl & Twig Vintage that searches vintage marketplaces for you. This page explains exactly what it does with your information. The short version: it only sends the words you search, and only so it can show you listings.

What Prowl sends, and where

Your search words. When you search in the Prowl popup, or choose "Live listings" from the right-click menu, Prowl sends the search words to Prowl's search server (prowl.thebluecloud.workers.dev, hosted by Cloudflare). The server looks them up on ShopGoodwill, eBay and Etsy and sends the listings back. Nothing else is sent: no name, email, account, browsing history or page content.
Text you highlight. The right-click menu only reads the text you have highlighted, and only when you choose one of Prowl's menu items. That text is used as your search.
Photos you look up. If you right-click a photo and choose Google Lens, Prowl opens Google Lens with that photo's web address. Google's privacy policy applies from there.
Marketplace searches. When you open a search on a marketplace (eBay, Etsy, Mercari and the others), your browser visits that site directly, just as if you had searched there yourself. Each site's own privacy policy applies.

What Prowl keeps

Prowl keeps your most recent search and its results in your browser's temporary session storage, so the popup can show them again if you reopen it. This is erased when you close your browser. It is never synced to other devices or sent to us.

Cloudflare, which runs the server, may keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses and request times) for security and reliability, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

What Prowl never does

No accounts, sign-ins or passwords.
No ads, analytics or tracking of the pages you visit.
We don't sell, rent or share your data, or use it for anything other than showing you search results.

Permissions Prowl asks for

Context menus: to add the Prowl right-click menu.
Tab groups: to put "every marketplace" tabs into one labelled group.
Storage: to remember your last search until you close the browser.
Access to prowl.thebluecloud.workers.dev: to fetch live listings from Prowl's search server. Prowl has no access to any other website's content.
